Along with the installation in the gallery, for the June First Friday, the MAC Gallery presents an immersive listening experience by acclaimed nature sound recordist Nick McMahan in the MAC Grove Recital Hall. Bamboo Tapestry on Maui features recordings captured deep within a bamboo forest on Maui. As night falls, listeners hear the gradual unfolding of this rich and atmospheric soundscape from a truly remarkable location. The sounds were recorded while assessing the sonic characteristics of Haleakala National Park for Quiet Parks International.
Nick McMahan is a nature field recordist based in Washington State. His work, capturing the sounds of nature, is complemented by his photography and storytelling. Drawn to nature as a source of solace and connection, Nick believes that understanding the natural world is essential to humanity's survival. Communities who closely rely on nature reflect the deep relationship we must foster with the environment.
Nick’s work has been featured on Apple TV’s Earthsound, Audible’s Sleep Sound (UK & CAN), and the award-winning National Park documentary The Heart of Maui. He also serves as the Director of Quiet Trails for Quiet Parks International.
